Andrew Smith is a Bioinformatician in the Genomics and Bioinformatic Team within the Centre for Motor Neurone Disease Research at Macquarie University. He completed his MSc in Clinical Bioinformatics in 2021 at the University of Manchester (United Kingdom), whilst undertaking the National Health Service (NHS) Scientist Training Program. During this time he developed analytical pipelines for clinical use and supported clinical/laboratory teams through providing Bioinformatic support. This included the creation of bespoke applications and management of clinical genomic data. He also spent several months working for Public Health Wales (PHW) as the Quality Lead for the Bioinformatics team. Where he played a vital role in the accreditation of services providing COVID-19 Bioinformatic analysis.
